AKIRA.MEDIA is a personal website run by Akira. This page explains what information the site collects when you visit, why, and what you can ask me to do about it.
Visiting the site
- Visitor counter. The first time you visit, your IP address is turned into a scrambled one-way code so that each visitor is only counted once. Only the code is stored, never the address itself.
- Analytics. I use Umami, a privacy-focused analytics tool that I host myself. It records which pages are viewed, the site that linked you here, and general device details such as browser, operating system, screen size and country. It doesn't use cookies and doesn't follow you to other websites.
- Server logs. Like almost every website, the web server keeps a log of each request, including the IP address it came from, the page asked for and the time. These logs are kept for 14 days for security and troubleshooting, then deleted automatically. Addresses that try to attack the site may be blocked automatically for up to a week.
- Session recordings. On the homepage and the gallery, Umami may also record how the page is used, such as scrolling and clicks, so I can find and fix layout problems. Anything you type into a form is masked and never recorded.
Comments
- When you post a comment on a photo or a mix, the site saves the name you enter, your comment, the time, and the country your connection appears to come from. All of these are shown publicly next to the comment.
- Your IP address is used only at the moment you post: to look up that country (using the ipapi.co service) and to limit how many comments can be posted in an hour. Only a scrambled code made from it is stored, never the address itself.
- I get an email when a comment is posted, containing the name, comment and country.
- Comments stay up until you ask me to remove them, or I remove them.
Stored in your browser
The site keeps two small preferences in your own browser: the light or dark theme you chose, and the name you last commented with, so you don't have to type it again. They never leave your device, apart from the name being sent when you post a comment. No cookies are set for visitors; the only cookie on this site is the login for my own admin area.
Services the site loads from
Some parts of the pages come from other services: fonts from Google Fonts, page libraries from jsDelivr, album and artist artwork on the Mixes page from Last.fm, Discogs, Deezer and Apple, and my profile picture on the GitHub page from GitHub. As with any website, those services receive your IP address when your browser loads their files, and their own privacy policies apply.
Why, and your rights
I process this information because I have a legitimate interest in running and improving a personal website and in keeping its comments free of spam. Under UK data protection law you can ask to see, correct or delete information about you, such as a comment you posted. Email administrator@akira.media, and mention the photo or mix and the name you used. If you're unhappy with how I've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
